The best quality pasta you can buy in the world today is 'Fresh' pasta. It is likely to be days old, contains preservatives, additives, or colourings, is simply flour and water, or a combination of eggs/flour/water. The problem with fresh pasta is that it’s tasteless, expensive and rarely fresh!

The only alternative is to live near a pasta artisan or make your own fresh pasta at home and cook it straight away. Although pasta is relatively easy and quick to make, the entire end-end process is a huge hassle, messy, and time consuming; even Italians have stopped making fresh pasta!

It's a huge cost for restaurants, deli's, and pasta shops to manually prepare and operate machines, measure/weigh/add ingredients, and oversee the process. Let’s not even talk about the mess and time it takes to clean-up.

Flavour Choices

Unlimited flavour and ingredient options

Most fresh pasta available today is made from the same ingredients as dried pasta – flour and water because it's cheap. The only distinguishing feature is that it’s not dried; it’s either chilled, frozen, or ambient. Secondly, most fresh egg pastas or noodles are bland - they supplement eggs with water, colouring, or artificial flavouring to reduce costs, improve margins, and create the perception of quality with a high ‘Yellow Index’. Thirdly, additives are commonly used to lengthen the use-by date before its wasted. Finally, fresh pasta is very expensive compared to dried pasta!

POD has created an entirely new paradigm in the world of pasta and noodles - consumer-driven choice of flavours, ingredients, and shapes at the point of purchase that also reduces costs, wastage, and carbon footprint. It's the 'Nespresso of Pasta' without the capsules!

Consumers choose their pasta type and flavour. Pasta choices include whole fresh egg or vegan pasta with choice of flour (gluten/gluten-free/specialty). Next, you can select "Plain" or choose from a variety of ten flavour options (e.g. chilli & garlic, basil & thyme,…). POD has flavours to suit the most avid pasta connoisseur.

POD provides greater choice of pasta and noodles where the consumer is in control of their taste preferences, nutritional needs, and health to suit their lifestyle (be it active, weight management, specific dietary health requirements, or training for a big sports event). All this without the cost, time and effort in making fresh pasta at home; just press a button at your local store!

For example, a swimmer may eat UFP with a combination of high protein and iron ingredients such as eggs and parsley before a swim race day, whereas a person with high cholesterol may choose the vegan option with rosemary and basil flavour.

A typical pasta dish comprises both pasta and sauce. Making or buying pasta sauce is time consuming, also adding 200-400% to the overall cost of the pasta dish! POD gives consumers choice to significantly reduce the overall cost of a pasta meal by delivering flavoursome and nutritious pasta where sauce is optional. A UFP dish can simply be served with a drizzling of olive oil, sprinkling of herbs and perhaps grated cheese that enhances the pasta flavour rather than drowning it! It's much simpler, cheaper, healthier and more flavoursome!

Pasta manufacturing for the past 500 years has focused on lowest cost, mass production, flavourless pasta with just semolina flour and water, and then adding flavour through sauces. POD will disrupt this orthodoxy by making ‘pasta fresca’ accessible and affordable to the masses once again, however now with embedded flavours that require less emphasis (and labour cost/effort) in producing or buying the pasta sauce, because the pasta is already filled with fresh flavours of eggs and other ingredient options.
